Sperm Health

Preparing for Semen Analysis

For the most accurate results, avoid ejaculation for at least 2 days before your semen analysis, but not more than 5. The ideal period of abstinence is 2-3 days before your appointment.

There are many factors that affect sperm analysis, such as:

Sperm Concentration
Sperm Concentration is the amount of sperm calculated in millions, per ml of liquid. An ideal concentration is above 15 million sperm per ml of liquid.

Sperm Morphology
A shape above 4%, but ideally 14%. Morphology is very important because only a normally shaped sperm can enter the egg without IVF treatment.

Sperm Motility
The sperm needs to have at least 30-40% motility.

How to Optimize Sperm Health

Eat a Healthy Diet
Sperm does not like FATS or SUGARS, however sperm loves the antioxidants that are found in fruits and vegetables. There are male supplements that are full of antioxidants which are also really effective for your Sperm Health.

Sleep Well
Sleep is very good for you because it helps restore you, which is great for sperm.

Reduce Stress
Many of us lead very stressful lives, it is important to try your best to reduce the amount of stress that you are exposed to.

Exercise Regularly
Get enough exercise! Exercise is very good for you and improves your sperm.

Decrease Heat
Sperm does NOT like heat. For example: try to avoid hot tubs, tight underwear, etc.

Stay in Shape
Weight can be a big issue, when you are overweight there is more mass around your testicles, this makes it very difficult for your sperm to cool down
